Mount Zero-ing

Hey everyone, AZ build team here (Unit 1).

I was running into some difficulties when trying to correct the zeroing of the CEM40 mount. I zero’d, took the top apart, moved the screw, put it back together, and tried to zero again. It still searches for the zero position in the original ‘forward’ orientation versus ‘sideways’. Is this normal? I interpret the instructions as after moving the screw it should automatically find a new zero point 90 degrees from the original. Is it supposed to zero that way automatically or when you calibrate are you supposed to move it to the new position and accept it? I’ve tried a few different ways (including moving during calibration) and it always seems to default back to the forward-facing direction instead of the new one. The only time I could get it to go sideways was if I did the “Set zero position”, moving it sideways roughly 90 degrees, and using the “Go to zero position” function. But, the “search for zero position” still goes forward. Hopefully that all makes sense.

~~Hey Gavin, in addition to moving the screw the saddle plate itself needs to be rotated 90 degrees before re-attaching and it’s not clear from your post if you did that as well.~~

I’m not near a mount right now but will be later this evening so can double-check the procedure alongside the instructions.

@Summer-Dawn and I did the saddle rotation tonight on a CEM40 mount that we have and it went okay. We haven’t been able to test with the hand controller yet (we need to update the firmware and didn’t have time) but will do so tomorrow and let you know if the “search for zero position” works, but you should be able to tell by just manually rotating it until it contacts the locator screw. We’ll do some more work on it tomorrow and get some videos.

I didn’t understand originally that you had to also rotate the physical top mount plate as well. Moved it and all is good, thanks!

Just to clarify for anyone else that may get confused in the future. Yes, you must move the screw and then when reassembling the top part of the mount you should screw everything in so that the plate is 90 degrees from where it started. Locking the top plate before doing this will make your life easier anyways, but is useful for this step so you remember which way is which. Remember the limit screw on the mount should be 180 degrees from the screw sticking out from the bottom of the top plate section.
