I’m often asked whether a PANOPTES robotic scope needs two cameras (NO), and whether a different number could be used (YES). The first experiments leading to Project PANOPTES started with a single camera, and a later experimental design had four cameras, which enabled the simultaneous comparison of removing the RGB Bayer Filter from two of the cameras while also comparing the Canon and Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 lenses.
I’m very slowly working towards building a PANOPTES unit, starting with experiments with alternate electronics, a mix of lenses and cameras (e.g. an SL2 with an 85mm f/1.4 lens and an SL1 with a 135mm f/2 lens) and a wider camera box that can hold three cameras.
