Hi SobitP123 thanks for the question! The unit is made from a few different components, each of which could fail at different times, but not for a few years at least. The original unit PAN001, was operating in some harsh conditions for over 5 years without too many problems. The most likely problems would be some corrosion of wires in humid or wet environments, as well as the weatherproofing material itself, which we did have to replace on PAN001 because of extreme wind gusts (100+ kph).
The shutter on the DSLR cameras is rated for 100,000 exposures, which works out to about 3 years according to the exposure time we use (see a technical discussion here).
Hopefully that answers some of your questions! The best way for us to all really find out is to put a bunch of them in operation for as long as possible! 😉
